Entry 3:

Debussy’s Danses Sacrée et Profane

Today I wanted to share with you a snippet of Debussy’s ‘Danses Sacrée et Profane’ performed a couple of years ago, when it we could be with live audiences and perform with large groups.

Debussy was one of the most important composers of the turn of the century and was commissioned to write this piece for harp to showcase a new type of instrument called the “chromatic harp;” though the instrument never really became very popular, the piece itself became part of standard repertoire for our current concert harp. Every harpist has played it over and over, but it never gets old! The lush harmonies and stunning melodies make this piece a gem in our repertoire. The ending is probably my favorite part to listen to, so I hope you enjoy it too!
